These serving boards are made from 100% recycled polyethylene plastic. The material is constructed from industrial scraps (mainly from the production of cutting boards) and dyed in the melting process to create the distinct veins that mimic those found in marble. Each piece has a unique pattern as evidence of this making process.
As part of Work-Shop Design Studio’s team, I managed this project which included prototyping and designing the boards, creating toolpaths for Work-Shop’s in-house CNC machine, milling the boards and refining them. I designed packaging for the products that describes the unique material and its environmental importance. The boards are currently being sold through RISD Works, Lore Collection, and Stock Culinary Goods. You can learn more about Work-Shop Design Studio and the Recycled Serving Boards
